Most of us could stand to be more hydrated. Hot weather encourages fluid consumption, but also sweating. Adding sugar to a beverage certainly helps it go down, but ups the calories. And then there is carbonation. It creates a kind of problem in your mouth that the water itself helps to resolve. This tension can make a carbonated drink feel more quenching and satisfying.
